2010 Scholarship Awardees

$2000 Awardees

Ms. Ashley R. Smith
Ashley will be attending Mount Olive College where she plans to major in International Business with a focus on cross cultural communications. Ms. Smith has received numerous academic honors/awards to include: Presidential Award, Skipped 8th Grade, Honor Roll, Talented and Gifted Program to name a few. Ashley grew up speaking only German, until she moved to Chicago and started American elementary school. She is now fluent in both languages and is working on Spanish. She has lived and traveled throughout Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. As a result, she is known to have a international perspective of the world and a keen understanding of tolerance for views different than her own.
Ms. Sophia Seawell
Sophia will be attending UNC Chapel Hill, Harvard, or Yale where she plans to major in English. Ms. Seawell was a member of Advanced Band. She has received numerous academic honors/awards to include: Principal’s Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, DoDDS-E Honor Band, and National Achievement Scholar. Although it has not been determined where she will attend college she states "All I know right now is that I want the best education possible, and I believe I have put myself in a position to receive it."

Ms. Ciara C. Toone
Ciara will be attending Texas A&M Corpus Christie where she plans to major in Elementary Education. Ms. Toone played many varsity sports throughout her high school years. She has received numerous academic honors/awards to include: Academic, Buccaneer, Geometry, Principal’s Honor Roll, Gold B, Voice of Democracy, and Principal’s awards. Ms Toone states "a lot of students while participating in extracurricular activities let their grades suffer. The reason I got through it all was determination; I never let myself visualize anything less than finishing with a 4.0 GPA."
Mr. James W. Green
James will be attending Univ of West Florida at Pensacola where he plans to major in Business. He has received numerous awards to include: National Honor Society, High Honor Roll, National Society of High School Scholars. Mr. Green states "I am proud to have spent three summers and one Christmas vacation, helping to gut/clean out, and re-build houses in my home city of New Orleans."

$1000 Awardees

Ms. Brandi M. Johnson
Brandi will be attending Univ of Illinois or Fisk University where she plans to major in Medicine. She has received numerous awards to include: National Honor Society, and on the Honor Roll from 2006-2010. Ms. Johnson is a cancer survivor and states "I feel that I have helped and inspired some people that have crossed my path and to me this is the best accomplishment anyone can have because it is not about awards, honors, grants, or money, it’s about making a difference and helping others"
Ms. Samantha N. Johnson
Samantha will be attending Univ of Virginia, James Madison Univ, or the College of William and Mary where she plans to major in Business. Ms. Johnson has received numerous academic honors/awards to include: Principal’s Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, Gold Card Renaissance, Silver Card Renaissance, Academic Excellence in US History and Language Arts 11. Ms. Johnson states that "business means money and success and that she wants to have both with an excellent college degree."
Ms. Cherese J. Lewis
Cherese will be attending Old Dominion Univ, Virginia Commonweath Univ, or the University of North Carolina where she plans to study Epidemiology. Ms. Lewis is involved in several extracurricular activities which include Cheerleading and she is the Class President. She has received numerous academic honors/awards to include: Principal's Honor Roll, Academic Excellence, and National Honor Society. She states "to be successful in life, intelligence, focus and determination is necessary."
Mr. Jeeno William Gabriel Miranda
Jeeno will be attending California State Univ. or Univ of California where he plans to major in Food Science or Family & Consumer Science. He has received numerous awards to include: National Honor Society, and Class President for his Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year. Mr. Miranda states "I work during the holidays- and on paydays I save my earnings for college."
